Wireless Glue Networks, Inc. Secures $4.5 Million in Funding From Investors in Japan and the US
February 21, 2013
LAFAYETTE, Calif., Feb. 21, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Wireless Glue Networks, Inc. announced today it closed a Series B round of $ 4.5 million. Investors include Japanese firms, Innovation Network Corporation of Japan, Toko Electric Corporation, Hosiden Corporation, and US venture capital firm, Clean Pacific Ventures.
Increased limitations in electricity supply along with pressures to manage capital and operational spending have resulted in accelerated efforts to optimize existing energy resources by applying information and communications technology to the existing electrical distribution system, through demand response (DR) and energy management systems. The acceleration of these efforts has been particularly acute in Japan following the Great East Japan Earthquake of March 2011 and the resulting decrease in nuclear generation capacity.
However, there is a wide range of different standards and communications systems used around the world to control ventilation and lighting in factories, commercial buildings, and homes.
Wireless Glue's SmartEdge M2M software platform allows diverse communication systems and standards to communicate and cross-connect with each other on a single platform.
"Out of necessity, Japan is poised to be a leader in the world energy market," said Peter McCabe, President and CEO, Wireless Glue Networks. "Our SmartEdge M2M platform provides real-time control and energy data between buildings and the cloud for aggregated energy management and DR applications that is scalable and cost-effective because it utilizes existing infrastructure."
"Wireless Glue's platform differs from anything else we have seen and its position in Japan provides a significant advantage to deployment in a rapidly advancing market," said Sean Schickedanz, General Partner and Chief Investment Officer of Clean Pacific Ventures.

UC Davis Plug-In Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Research Center selects Wireless Glue Networks for V2G & B2G Cost and Benefits Study
August 2, 2012
Compare Cost and Benefits of Battery-to-Grid and Vehicle-to-Grid Systems
Today UC Davis Plug-In Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Research Center selected Wireless Glue Networks to produce a study that will measure, model and compare Vehicle–to-Grid (V2G) systems and battery-to-grid (B2G) systems such as Home Energy Storage Appliances and other 2nd-life battery storage devices. This study will provide important insight into potential use/reuse strategies for V2G & B2G battery storage technology as ancillary services in the power grid.
“We are excited to be selected to explore real world deployment scenarios for V2G & B2G,” said Dr. John Lin, Co-Founder and CTO of Wireless Glue Networks. “We believe an analysis of the potential combination of communication technology with realistic 2nd life battery scenarios is crucial to understanding whether and how the expanding plug-in hybrid and electric vehicle markets can be economically leveraged to address the growing need for energy storage.”

OpenADR Alliance Announces Strong Membership Growth and Successful Compliance Testing
May 15, 2012
Successful Testing Event Prepares First Products for Market Adoption of This Important Smart Grid Standard
MORGAN HILL, Calif., May 15, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The OpenADR Alliance, a nonprofit corporation created to foster the development, adoption and compliance of a Smart Grid standard known as Open Automated Demand Response (OpenADR), today announced the addition of several industry-leading members, including AutoGrid Systems and EnerNOC at the Sponsor level; Alstom Grid, Cisco, Comverge, REGEN Energy, Wireless Glue, Universal Devices and Ventyx; an ABB Company at the Contributor level; Duke Energy, Hawaiian Electric Company, Institute for Information Industry and Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute as Adopters. With the addition of these companies and 27 individual members, the alliance's total membership has reached 71 members with representatives from utilities, independent system operators (ISOs), regulators and controls suppliers.
The strong momentum of the OpenADR Alliance is highlighted by its 44 percent growth in membership since December of last year, as well as the successful testing of OpenADR2.0a-compliant products. This progress further validates the OpenADR standard, and increases its ability to lower the cost, improve the reliability and accelerate the speed of automated demand response implementations for the smart grid.
"Industry momentum is clearly growing globally for standards-based DR. The addition of our new members and our rapidly-growing membership base reinforces the importance policy makers, utilities and equipment manufacturers place on interoperable energy management systems," said Barry Haaser, managing director of OpenADR Alliance. "The imminent release of the OpenADR 2.0a specification, coupled with availability of our new test tool will allow us to support the rapid deployment of OpenADR certified devices this summer."
"Open standards that define a crisp program for compliance are critical to interoperable systems which in turn enable Demand Response to achieve a mainstream market," said Amit Narayan, president and CEO at AutoGrid Systems. "The OpenADR Alliance has energized an ecosystem that will accelerate the cost-effective scaling of Demand Response in the market."
"A standards-based infrastructure is a key step in improving ease-of-participation for energy users who want to be more engaged in active energy management," said David Hardin, senior director of Smart Grid standards at EnerNOC, Inc. "OpenADR 2.0 represents an important development in standardizing how systems interact with each other across the grid, and this improved interoperability will facilitate quicker, more seamless, and more efficient connections between participants in demand response."
About the OpenADR Alliance
The OpenADR Alliance fosters the development, adoption, and compliance of the Open Automated Demand Response (OpenADR) standard through collaboration, education, training, testing, and certification. The OpenADR Alliance works with related organizations such as the Smart Grid Interoperability Panel, Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS), North American Energy Standards Board (NAESB), Utilities Communications Architecture International User's Group (UCAIug), Wi-Fi Alliance™, ZigBee Alliance™ and others as appropriate.
The OpenADR Alliance is open to all interested stakeholders interested in accelerating the adoption of the OpenADR standard for price- and reliability-based demand response. More information can be obtained at www.openadr.org

Jobs
M2M Embedded Java Engineer
Job Description
The successful candidate will be part of the core engineering team to work on our multi-protocol M2M energy management platform. Our strategic partners include Tokyo Electric family of companies, and we are developing demand side solutions to address the energy crisis in Japan and around the world.
Our mission is to solve one of greatest barriers to the deployment of alternative energy resources such as batteries, wind, and solar into the smart grid: lack of fine-grained, real-time grid control. Help us usher in a new era of renewables and demand side management for energy independence. This is your chance to make a difference!
This position reports to the VP of Engineering.
**Domestic US Candidates Only**
Desired Skills & Experience Description
Significant application development experience in a JVM based language, including a thorough knowledge of core Java APIs and server side technologies.
Thorough familiarity with both RESTful and traditional web service paradigms, and of various options for deploying and managing such applications.
Thorough familiarity with runtime component frameworks such as Spring and OSGi, and with the use of dependency injection.
Deep understanding of underlying computer hardware and design principles. This is not just an application programming job. Although we use the JVM for a significant amount of our software, this position involves the integration of that software with a variety of OS and communications technologies. A broad understanding of underlying platforms, particularly Linux, and of network protocols is an absolute requirement. The ideal candidate would have experience developing systems or embedded software in a non-JVM language.
Desirable
Experience with energy management, including OpenADR, AMI, Zigbee SE, etc.
Proficiency with web-based user interface design.
Second language a plus (particularly Japanese).
